Tasting Notes: Hibiki Suntory Whisky

As I confessed to @whiskeyiseverything last night, I don't want to sound dramatic, but I haven't had a first sip like this in awhile.

I've had a growing curiosity about Japanese whisky for a few months now. I've seen it on the shelves; friends have asked me about it and/or recommended it; I've come across articles about it while researching whiskey in general. But I hadn't tried it... until last night.

Wow. And I don't say that flippantly. If this bottle of @suntorywhisky Hibiki Harmony is at all an indicator of the category as a whole, I'm in.

Elegant and seductive through the nose, this blend of Japanese malt and grain whiskies comes with generous fruitiness and honey-like sweetness atop subtle pepper and spice. Orange and apricot lead the way into the lingering cinnamon and oak finish.

If you can handle a whisky in its vibrant youth, I found this to be an incredibly well crafted experience from sniff to finish. Have you partaken?
